The daughters of the mythical king of Athens, Kekrops, Aglauros, Herse and Pandrosos. The two former disobeyed the goddess Athena and opened the chest in which baby Erichthonios in the form of a snake (or wrapped with snakes) was kept. As soon as they saw Erichtonios they went mad and leaped from the Acropolis rock. According to another version of the myth, Athena in anger drove the two sisters mad and after she chased them, they both threw themselves off the Acropolis. Only Pandrosos obeyed Athena so the goddess made her the nurturer of Erichthonios.
